Welcome to “NYPD Shield,” our flagship program for partnership with New York City’s private security managers.

After September 11th, the Police Department’s relationship with New York’s private security professionals took on a vast new significance for the City. One of the stated aims of the terrorists is to attack America’s economy. And nothing represents the nation’s financial and commercial strength more than New York and the world-class companies that call it home.

Since 9-11, the Department has dramatically expanded its contacts with you through the Area Police Private Security Liaison (APPL) network, site security surveys, and regional infrastructure protection courses presented by our Counterterrorism Bureau. However, the growing worldwide terrorist threat requires that we take our cooperation to a new, higher level. "NYPD Shield" is our answer to that challenge.

"NYPD Shield" is not intended to replace existing programs with the private security industry. Rather, it will bring all of these together under one umbrella, and also serve as a clearinghouse for threat updates and key information on new briefings, industry-specific seminars, and the latest offerings from our Counterterrorism Bureau.
